TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The newly appointed Chairperson of the New Media Entertainment Association (NMEA), Daphne Lee, stated on Tuesday (Dec. 19) that for Taiwan's content industry to thrive, it must focus on funding, talent, and global integration with the aim of becoming an Asian hub.
At the 2023 Asiahub New Media Summit in Taipei, Lee highlighted the advent of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era, emphasizing the need for cross-sector collaboration, integration of industry chains, and horizontal connections to encourage more corporate participation, which will benefit the development of Taiwan's content industry.
This year's summit features six main themes, including 19 keynote speeches, panel discussions, and 7 workshops, bringing together 60 speakers.
Among them, LINE Taiwan Managing Director, Roger Chen, participated in a key discussion titled "Taiwan's Soft Power V.S. Taiwan Industry's Upgrade, Transformation and Global Outreach."
Videoland Television Network Chairman Lee Chung-pei suggested that Taiwan should create more quality content to ensure profitability for investors and establish funding recovery mechanisms.
Lin Chien-han, Chairman of Taiwan Secom, shared how the company has moved from managing DVD rental services to investing in Taiwanese films and creating the companies LeTV and YoXi Entertainment, implementing a dual strategy of investment and production.
Lin also discussed how Taiwanese creative content is breaking into the international market by integrating scripts with local culture and socio-political issues, citing the success of films like "The Candidate" on Netflix and "The Bridge Curse," which sold rights to over 40 countries.
