TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen expressed her support for promoting traditional virtues like propriety, righteousness, integrity, and a sense of shame among Taiwanese nationals during a Municipal Administrative Meeting on Tuesday (Dec. 12).
Lu emphasized the importance of these values for the nation's development, transcending political leadership and time.
City Councilor Lin Pi-hsiu raised concerns about the removal of Gu Yanwu's essay on "integrity and shame" from the 108 Curriculum Guidelines, advocating for the adoption of the school motto "propriety, righteousness, integrity, and sense of shame."
Lin voiced concerns about distorted moral values and stressed the significance of the common school motto.
Mayor Lu, both a mayor and a parent, emphasized the need for character education in schools alongside academic performance. Promoting the school motto is seen as vital in elevating the quality of citizens, she said.
