TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's badminton "golden duo," Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin, will not compete in the season-ending finale, although Lee expressed optimism on Facebook Wednesday (Dec. 6), writing, "I expect myself to continue to be brave enough to break through, no matter whether or not the outcome is perfect."
Throughout the season, Lee and Wang faced off in 24 badminton tournaments, showcasing their formidable partnership. The pair triumphed in the Super 750 Japan Open, marking a highlight of their season with a championship win.
However, Lee and Wang also encountered near misses in other tournaments, finishing as runners-up in both the Hylo Open, a Super 300 series event, and the 2023 Korea Masters.
Despite failing to progress to the year-end finale, the pair still added to their accolades by clinching a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. This achievement stood out as Taiwan's badminton team's sole medal in the multi-sport event.
Looking ahead, the duo is planning a January 2024 comeback to the badminton circuit. With their sights firmly set on accumulating points for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Lee and Wang are eager to compete for the gold once again, aiming to defend their Olympic title at the forthcoming global event.
