TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim said on Wednesday (Dec. 6) that during her tenure as Taiwan's representative to the U.S., Taiwanese people were treated with dignity and respect, denying any subservience.
In an online show interview, Hsiao highlighted that Taiwan's unique situation requires a highly flexible approach to diplomacy, which can sometimes be soft and other times firm.
Hsiao candidly admitted to experiencing setbacks and grievances. However, she insisted that her team had worked tirelessly to overcome obstacles and ultimately gained widespread support and even respect for their efforts.
The role was challenging, Hsiao noted, but the confidence, encouragement, and backing from Taiwanese people made it worthwhile.
Additionally, Hsiao stressed the importance of Taiwan's foreign policy objectives including gaining the affection and support of the international community, and promoting Taiwan's democratic and economic achievements.
