TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je's campaign chief of staff Vivian Huang declared Wednesday (Dec. 6) that all personal asset declarations made by TPP vice-presidential candidate Cynthia Wu followed legal protocols, emphasizing that evidence should be provided if there are any suspicions.
The response came after media personality Huang Yang-ming questioned Wu's asset declarations, suggesting that she only reported her assets, neglecting the mandatory declaration of her spouse's assets—raising concerns of possible discrepancies.
In her defense, Huang explained that Wu's declarations of assets upon assuming her legislative duties last year were all in strict adherence to legal requirements.
This statement follows the Central Election Commission's (CEC) approval a day earlier of the qualifications of candidates for the 16th presidential and vice-presidential elections.
The CEC confirmed that teams from the Kuomintang (KMT), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and TPP all met eligibility criteria.
In conjunction with this, the CEC also released the financial disclosures of the candidates, which has brought the scrutiny of Cynthia Wu's declarations to the fore.
The confirmation of candidate qualifications alongside the public disclosure of their assets comes at a critical time, as the election draws near and the issue of transparency and integrity becomes vital to voters making informed decisions.
