TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) vice-presidential candidate Cynthia Wu rebuked claims on Monday (Dec. 4) that her upcoming overseas trip aims evading the controversy over her nationality.
Wu clarified her appointment as the TPP representative for the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) dates back to October, preceding the controversy.
Responding to media inquiries post her participation in the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee's review of the Assisted Reproduction Act, Wu addressed her Monday evening departure for Dubai for COP 28.
She urged the media to check facts before raising suspicions and revealed that the Legislative Yuan had requested each party to nominate a member for the legislative delegation to COP 28 in October.
Wu, serving as the convener for the health and environmental committee this session, emphasized that attending the conference is part of her scheduled duties. Since assuming office in November last year, Wu has been dedicated to sustainable issues, including healthcare, fiscal policy, and environmental sustainability.
Her commitment was recognized by the Taiwan Renewable Energy Certification Association, which awarded her for her contributions.
On the eve of her departure, Wu shared her aspirations for the trip, stating, "I hope that during COP, I can bring Taiwan to the world, and bring the world to Taiwan."
