TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential hopeful Hou Yu-ih announced on Friday (Nov. 24) his selection of media personality Jaw Shaw-kong as the party's vice-presidential candidate.
Jaw, a veteran in the political field who ran for Taipei City Mayor in 1994, remarked that he was entrusted with the mission at the last minute but did not appear to have any misgivings.
He explained that he had hoped the KMT and the TPP could find common ground before the registration date and work together to run against the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Jaw echoed Hou's previous comments, stating that the KMT presidential candidate had attempted to reach out to the TPP one last time before their announcement, but the other party did not pick up.
As the alliance falls through, both parties are making up for lost time and upping their campaign efforts before Jan. 13, 2024.
