TAIPEI (TVBS News) — With only two days remaining before the 2024 presidential election registration deadline, speculation about a potential breakdown in the coalition between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the opposition Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has intensified.
Addressing these rumors, former legislator Shen Fu-hsiung spoke out on a Yahoo TV talk show on Tuesday (Nov. 21). He claimed that TPP candidate Ko Wen-je is likely to join forces with the KMT, selecting Hou Yu-ih as his running mate in what he termed a "Blue-White alliance."
Shen shared insights from a recent dinner with TPP campaign Office Director Cho Yu-hsiu, during which he sensed uncertainty about Ko's intentions, even within his close circle.
Shen recounted how his earlier prediction in October about a KMT-TPP joint ticket, seemingly confirmed by an agreement reached on Nov. 15, aligns with the recent developments in the coalition talks. This agreement, indicating Ko's tacit approval of the pairing, led to an intense backlash from his supporters.
Despite the controversy, Shen asserted that Ko's actions were not deceptive but part of a calculated, secretive strategy aimed at advancing his political career.
