TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lai Ching-te, the presidential candidate and chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is poised to select Hsiao Bi-khim, the Representative to the US, as his running mate. A formal announcement is scheduled for Monday (Nov. 20).
The Central Election Commission (CEC) will start accepting candidate registrations for both the presidential and vice-presidential races from Nov. 20 to 24.
Following the DPP's revelation of its legislator-at-large list this Wednesday, the party plans to officially establish the Lai-Hsiao partnership and integrate Hsiao into the legislative campaign.
Sources with knowledge of the situation stated that Hsiao will visit Hualien on Nov. 26 to attend the inauguration of Lai's campaign headquarters in the county, following her return to Taiwan.
Currently attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, Hsiao has not directly commented on her election prospects. Her only statement regarding the summit was, "There is a lot happening at APEC. We are working diligently for a successful outcome."
