TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City's Department of Cultural Affairs agreed on Tuesday (Nov. 7) to have the Taipei City Government foot the NT＄190 million leftover bill for the completion of the Taipei Music Center.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an had decided earlier to prepay the unsettled construction funds for the joint investment between the city government and the cultural affairs department, as the pending amount resulted in the city government spending NT＄800,000 on interest each month.
At a meeting with the Education and Culture Committee Tuesday, most city councilors agreed to have the city government foot the bill first. However, they emphasized that who will pay the final bill still needs to be further clarified.
To this, the Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Tsai Shi-Ping, promised to submit a complete report within two weeks.
Councilor Chien Shu-pei supported prepaying the construction funds but insisted on continued coordination with the Department of Cultural Affairs, which might involve litigation. If litigation is lost, she surmised that further discussions will be needed to determine who should bear the legal expenses.
