TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the 2024 presidential elections approach, several notable figures have entered the political arena in Taiwan. These include Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of Foxconn, who is running for president with Tammy Lai as his running mate. Also, Belle Yu, a former music show presenter, is seeking a position as a legislator in Taipei.
Rumors further suggest that Larisa Angela Bakurova, a Ukrainian-born actress who became a naturalized Taiwanese citizen in 2019, may be included in the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) list of at-large legislator candidates. Bakurova has dedicated herself to promoting gymnastics in Taiwan since becoming a citizen and has achieved notable success in this field. She founded a gymnastics association and has led young athletes to compete overseas, earning impressive results.
Recently, Bakurova shared a Facebook post about National Day, featuring a photo of her team holding Taiwanese flags at a competition. Her love for Taiwan was widely praised online despite not being born here.
While insiders speculate that Bakurova has a good chance of being included on the candidate list for the upcoming elections, factional differences within the DPP may lead to changes in the list of candidates. As such, nothing is certain until the final list is released.
