TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen expressed hopes that Taiwan will continue to be united by the power of love and to stand with diversity in a Facebook post on Saturday (Oct. 28) ahead of the 21st Taiwan Pride Parade.
In the post, Tsai highlighted Taiwan passing the bill to legalize same-sex marriage on May 17, 2019, as a significant accomplishment. She pointed out that the cheers when the bill passed at the Legislative Yuan symbolized a joint effort and achievement of all Taiwanese.
The president emphasized that under the safeguard of democracy and freedom in Taiwan, every effort has been made to respect the individual differences of each person, and this respect is driving continual progress in Taiwanese society.
She also extended a warm welcome to friends from all around the world to participate in the Taiwan Pride Parade held at the Taipei City Government Square later in the day.
The theme for this year's parade is "Stand with Diversity," emphasizing the importance of unity in the diverse society of Taiwan.
