TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported on Monday (Oct. 16) that they're testing pork in Taoyuan City after discovering a food business wrongfully labeled pork from the U.S. as originating from Canada.
The blunder, the company claims, was due to an oversight made during the amendment of shipments to downstream businesses.
Following thorough investigations with Taoyuan's Department of Public Health, the case has now been turned over to judicial authorities.
FDA Deputy Director Lin Chin-fu said the distributor shipped the pork in their original packaging but failed to correct computer records for the shipment, acknowledging the oversight as a significant failing on their part.
Lin is conducting tests to ascertain whether the pork contains the controversial feed additive ractopamine.
The results are expected within the next three to five days.
