TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Shih-chung, the campaign chairman for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te, suggests an alliance between Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) is unlikely following an exclusive web interview conducted by YahooTV on Wednesday (Oct.11).
With just over three months remaining before the 2024 Presidential Election, all eyes are on the potential alliance between KMT hopeful Hou Yu-ih and TPP hopeful Ko Wen-je.
In an interview, Chen addressed the speculations of a Blue-White (KMT-TPP) merger and its possible impacts. The former health minister reasoned that a significant chunk of TPP's supporters are either disenchanted with the KMT or DPP. Thus, an alliance with KMT would lead to Ko losing support from those who disagree with KMT.
Chen emphasized that even if a Blue-White collaboration takes place, there remains a solid chance for Lai to win the election. Furthermore, he believes the focus of the elections should be on the propagation of ideals rather than mere vote garnering.
