NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih unveiled his policy agenda aimed at enhancing working conditions and wage levels on Friday (Sept. 8).

The New Taipei mayor's proposals center on three key focal points: tax reduction for the salaried class, incentivizing businesses to elevate wage standards, and introducing a wealth tax.

Hou called out the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for not effectively addressing the issue of low wages, which has generated great despair among the younger generation.

In response, Hou pledged a gradual increase of the minimum wage to NT$33,000 following his election.

Additionally, Hou put forth a proposal for a 45% wealth tax. When questioned about potential concerns that the policy would lead to a loss of support from affluent individuals, Hou asserted that 'it is the right thing to do.'

As the 2024 Taiwan election campaign gains momentum, each presidential candidate has articulated slogans and unveiled attention-grabbing policies to capture the hearts of voters.

However, whether each candidate can fulfill these promises remains a question that voters should weigh carefully.
