MBABANE (TVBS News) — Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen paid a visit to the Mbabane Government Hospital in Eswatini on Wednesday (Sept. 6), where medical personnel from Taipei Medical University Hospital have assisted in the past 15 years.

Highlighting the message that "Taiwan Can Help," Tsai stated emphatically, "Taiwan provides its best medical expertise and engineering technology to help improve the lives of our diplomatic allies."

Having traveled to Eswatini to celebrate the nation's 55th independence anniversary and King Mswati III's 55th birthday, the Taiwan President also pledged to revise the "African Plan" upon her return.

She vowed to hand it to the next elected president if the project wasn't finished during her term.

"If I don't complete it, I will let everyone know: the project is in the next president's hands; if you have any questions, press him!

However, many criticized Tsai following the announcement, claiming that the Legislative Yuan had frozen the African Plan's previous budget of NT$7 million.

To this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) clarified that after submitting a detailed proposal to the Legislative Yuan in March this year, the body passed the budget.

Taiwan continues to support its African ally and promote Taiwan-Africa cooperation and exchanges in areas such as trade, health, agriculture, culture and education, science and technology, and humanitarian aid.
