KEELUNG (TVBS News) — Forensic technicians uncovered ten more bags of items on Monday (Sept. 4) at the Qidu Rolling Stock Branch of the first to sixth train carriages of the derailed Taroko Express No. 408.

Following the April 2021 accident, which saw an engineering vehicle slide from a slope and hit the Taroko Express No. 408, causing 49 deaths and 213 injuries, further investigations continue.

The "Taroko Tears," a group formed by the victim's families, made recent discoveries inside the wreckage. Their spokesperson, Wang Wei-chun, revealed findings of bone fragments of the victims.

On Friday (Sept. 1), authorities uncovered 18 bone fragments, two teeth, and 94 non-carriage-related items in the 7th and 8th carriages, which have been sent to the Ministry of Justice's (MOJ) Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing.

Wang also found a palm-sized bone fragment in the 8th carriage at Fugang Base. Investigators from the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and employees confirmed the discovery of remains and other items left by the victims in this carriage.

The Taiwan Railways Administration has secured 94 non-carriage items and is processing claims. The Railway Police Bureau and railway staff continued their search, starting at 8:30 a.m.

As of noon, they have cleared out ten large plastic bags of items, potentially including more human remains and personal belongings.
