TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Government spokesperson Yin Wei reaffirmed Mayor Chiang Wan-an's pledge to uphold democracy, peace, and prosperity goals during his attendance at Shanghai's twin-city forum on Tuesday (Aug. 29) following criticisms from the ruling party.
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) earlier urged Chiang to speak up for the residents of Taiwan and protest against China's increasing military exercises surrounding Taiwan and its import ban on Taiwan's mangoes.
Wei explained that Chiang's participation in the twin-city forum had received the central government's consent and mentioned that the Mainland Affairs Council supports the forum's ongoing activities.
Highlighting Chiang's commitment, Yin Wei stated the mayor's resolve to maintain reciprocal dignity and goodwill principles.
He added that President Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP Presidential Candidate Lai Ching-te have both publicly advocated for healthy and orderly cross-strait exchanges.
