TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te attended a social welfare event on Monday (Aug. 28), and did not reply to inquiries about business tycoon Terry Gou's announcement to run for president this morning.
Before entering the venue, Lai was questioned about his views on Gou's candidacy and the presidential race. He simply waved and smiled at the event attendees but did not comment further.
With less than five months before the election, Lai continued to lead several public opinion polls, with the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Hou Yu-ih and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Ko Wen-je trailing behind.
As Lai continued running his campaign, he appeared at an event organized by a social welfare association at the NTUH International Convention Center, extended his commitment to support the disabled, and pledged to hold regular meetings with various groups if elected to ensure their voices are heard.
