TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson Chang Chih-hao on Monday (Aug. 28) reacted to business magnate Terry Gou's presidential bid, calling it "an internal affair of the Kuomintang (KMT)."
Chang said that the DPP had no further comment regarding Gou's announcement of entering the 2024 presidential race as an independent candidate earlier that day.
However, he urged that all factions should concentrate on rational policy discussions to avoid social disruption, and voiced hope for all political fronts to focus on rational policy discourse.
Chang expressed that Taiwan is a democratic country, which means every citizen is eligible to run for the presidency; hence, the DPP respects Gou's decision.
"Unfounded politically motivated rumors and verbal criticism, or utilizing fear of warfare to threaten citizens, will only amplify social division," Chang underscored, "Such moves hold no benefit for society."
