TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Business tycoon Terry Gou said he believes in Hsinchu Mayor Kao Hung-an's integrity on Monday (Aug. 14), following the mayor's indictment on charges of embezzlement during her tenure as a legislator by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office (TDPO) earlier that day.
"I believe in the integrity and honesty of Mayor Kao Hung-an, and support her to do all she can to defend her innocence," said Gou.
The TDPO filed charges against Kao for violating the "Application and Critical Review of Anti-Corruption Act and Criminal Law" and the "Criminal Law" after discovering Kao embezzled assistant expenses amounting to NT$463,000 to purchase personal items, such as shampoo, double eyelid tapes, and sanitary pads.
These charges were also filed against Kao's team, which includes Chen Huan-yu, Kao's office manager, Huang Hui-min, administrative director, Chen Yu-kai, legal affairs director, and Wang Yu-wen, public relations director.
Kao was the deputy general manager at Gou's Foxconn Technology Group and a board member of his Culture and Education Foundation.
