TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Lai Ching-te offered more details about his upcoming diplomatic visit to Paraguay on Wednesday (Aug. 9).
Speaking at the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday (Aug. 9), the DPP Chairman promised to present his presidential election platform after he returns to Taiwan in September.
Acting as a special presidential envoy, Lai will be attending the inauguration of Paraguay's new president, conveying best wishes from the Taiwanese people. Lai confirmed he will transit through the United States en route to Paraguay, emphasizing the South American' country's close relations with Taiwan for 66 years.
In addition, the Vice President announced that he plans to introduce his "National Hope Project" as part of his election platform in September. The proposal aims to meet society's demands by working with local governments to provide safe leisure facilities for children and adolescents.
Lai emphasized that Taiwan does not lack electricity, with seven natural gas units approved during his tenure, proving Taiwan's ample power. Ahead of the presidential elections, Lai urged the public to use three benchmarks to assess the best candidate for the job.
First, an adequate candidate should propose a general direction for the country that meets the nation's needs. He also called for the public to compare the differences in governance between former President Ma Ying-jeou and current President Tsai Ing-wen in evaluating the qualifications of the candidates.
Last but not least, he remarked that as the ruling party, the DPP is brave enough to be evaluated by the people and will propose more policies and achievements for the people to choose from.
