TAIPEI (TVBS News) — AUO Corporation unexpectedly laid off around 200 employees on Friday (Aug. 4). This comes as a part of the parent company's strategy to shut down two of their production lines, C5D and C6C, located in Tainan and move production to other lines in hopes of improving overall operational efficiency.
AUO mainly uses its Tainan C5D and C6C factories to produce laptops, monitors, and TV panels. The decision to close the Tainan lines reflects changes in end demand and long-term supply and demand. AUO aims to adopt a flexible business strategy, manufacturing high-demand products and embracing new market technology.
Starting in March of this year, AUO initiated a plan to assist laid-off employees in finding work within other factories. The company's severance package includes offering compensation beyond the standard regulatory norms through mutual agreement between the labor and capital if employees don't wish to transfer or can't find suitable positions.
