NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In an audacious act of vandalism, an unidentified individual splashed white paint at the main entrance of the New Taipei City Government building on Friday morning (June 16).

Startling employees who were present during regular working hours, the suspect quickly fled the scene on a motorcycle. Local authorities sprang into action, apprehending the suspect by 11 a.m. as they strived to unravel the motive behind this brazen incident.

Wearing a helmet, the suspect abruptly halted at the entrance and unleashed a sudden spray of white paint, leaving the area defaced. The New City Government promptly dispatched a cleaning team to restore the vandalized site, while the Haishan Police Station launched an intensive investigation.

Working diligently, law enforcement traced the motorcycle's license plate and reviewed surveillance footage along the suspect's likely routes.

A significant breakthrough occurred around 11 a.m. when authorities successfully apprehended the suspect in the Linkou District. However, the motive driving this audacious vandalism remains unclear and is currently under investigation.

According to the latest reports, the suspect was identified as a 33-year-old man surnamed Chen. Allegedly, he utilized his mother's motorcycle to reach the city government's main entrance and splashed paint.

After committing the crime, Chen returned home to change clothes before embarking on the motorcycle again, aimlessly traversing various areas in New Taipei City, including Xinzhuang and Linkou Districts.

"Taiwan is a free, democratic country. Every citizen has the right to express their demands. However, it is important that people express their demands in a rational and lawful manner," responded New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Liu He-jan.

Government officials have sought to reassure employees and the public, promising to implement necessary security measures to prevent similar incidents from transpiring.
