TAIPEI (TVBS News) A retired naval officer has established national defense education parks in Taiwan, hiring retired non-commissioned officers from the U.S. Marine Corps to instruct classes so that the public can have further understanding of national defense issues.

Hsiung Chih-sheng is a retired senior naval sergeant. He established this teaching center to make knowledge about national defense more accessible to the public in a bid to  promote national defense education.

"The original concept of this national defense education center is not to promote the concept of militia or other related situations. We just hope that through our collection and our enthusiasm for the military, we can let the general public know what our country and our military are preparing for," said Hsiung.

The program cooperates with schools in Taiwan and serves as an off-campus teaching venue for military training classes, including basic cognition and shooting experience. The program is taught by non-commissioned officers of the U.S. Marine Corps who teach on-site.

With different models of weapons displayed here, the founder hopes that more people will proactively seek military knowledge. More importantly, he emphasized that national defense education should be promoted at different levels.

Chao Yung-sheng, the former Deputy Director of the Political Warfare Bureau said: "So I think the Ministry of National Defense should play a very important and integrated role so that our people can first have such psychological preparations and actions so that the national defense as a whole can be improved. The military and our national defense are like two sides of the same coin. They are not just in charge of each other, but we are a community. In fact, the public can play more roles."

National defense is essential for the security of each nation and should be understood deeply by all individuals. Military conflict can bring devastating consequences if not properly addressed; it's vital to acknowledge its risks before any action is taken.
