CHIAYI (TVBS News) — Residents near the Chiayi Air Base who are disturbed by F-16V fighter jets can apply for subsidies of up to NT$80,000.
Although the villagers are used to the daily noise, the recent increase in aircraft harassment from the Chinese People's Liberation Army has led to the Taiwan Air Force dispatching more fighter aircraft into the air day and night.
According to Taiwan Air Force's briefings with each village, there are three levels to the subsidy.
The upper limit of the third level is NT$80,000, Level 2 is NT$60,000, and level 1 is NT$40,000. Each household is limited to one application per year.
The upgraded F-16V engines currently in service in Chiayi are the old models.
However, the new engines that will arrive in the future will be upgraded, and the thrust will be increased. Thus residents fear the noise may be louder.
