TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The pandemic has forced many industries, such as the performing arts, to rethink their strategies to thrive in the post-pandemic world.
Diabolo Dance Theatre has sized this opportunity to team up with Song Kun Performing Art Group to create "Island's Sunrise" with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The innovative performance is a fusion of Taiwanese cultural elements, such as folk beliefs, that bring a visual and auditory feast of art and literature to international audiences.
"Island's Sunrise" features the story of this island nation, the song of the sea goddess, and the majestic beauty of the mountains and the sea.
The performance symbolizes the disasters, pains, and challenges encountered in life, showing that there is always a light in the hearts of the islanders.
"Island's Sunrise" was recently presented at the Overseas Community Affairs Council's (OCAC) 90th-anniversary meeting to the OCAC Council Members to convey this new year's blessings.
The performance was well received and has attracted international attention following its acclaimed performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, according to the founder of Diabolo Dance Theatre, Liu Le-Chun.
"Island's Sunrise" is expected to be presented again at the Edinburgh Festival. In the meantime, Diabolo Dance Theatre and Song Kun Performing Art Group will showcase their works "Blessing from Heaven" and "The Light of Life" online from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1 to spread the blessing and prospect of welcoming the new year.
