TAIPEI (TVBS News) — After more than 2 years of living with the pandemic, the Taitung County Government is coming back stronger than ever by providing incentives to boost local tourism.

The local authority hosted a friendly competition to see which travel groups could bring about more tourists. The promotional event successfully concluded in November this year.

Among the more than 200 travel groups, Lion Travel came out ahead and nabbed first place, receiving a NT$200,000 reward for their hard work.

"Through this project, we also hope to bring more customers to Taitung to shop and travel," deputy chief of the Taitung County Tourism Department Wang Kuo-cheng remarked.

According to the local government, travelers stayed in Taitung for an average of 2.5 days since the competition began in March.

The average tourist also spent around NT$5,500, which, combined with additional expenditures, culminated in around NT$400 million spent in the region.

Located in eastern Taiwan, Taitung has been a popular travel destination for locals and international visitors alike, thanks to its beautiful natural scenery.

Following the reopening of borders in Taiwan in October, local and international travels have become prevalent once more.

Through Taitung’s incentive project, the county has a head start in revitalizing its tourism industry.
