TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Do you know that many of the jerseys worn at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar were actually made in Taiwan?
This textile factory alone received orders for jerseys from nine different countries, including Germany, Argentina, Mexico, and Japan.
The raw material used is recycled polyester yarn, and along with a unique weaving technology, the jerseys are not only eco-friendly but also have a high resistance to wear and tear.
These Made in Taiwan (MIT) designs have long been sought-after fabrics by national teams when creating their jerseys.
At this Taiwanese textile factory in Pingzhen, recycled plastic bottles are used to create environmentally friendly yarn. The yarn is visibly even thinner than a human hair.
And at this factory alone, there are 1,200 metric tons of environmentally friendly yarn, 20% of which are used to make jerseys for the World Cup.
Wang Hsu-hong, the Manager of the textile factory said, "For jerseys, it depends on their thickness. An environmentally friendly (jersey) may require 7 to 8 (plastic bottles), or it may even use 20 recycled plastic bottles.
PET bottle fragments are recycled through decomposition, re-polymerization, and high-temperature melting to produce environmentally friendly pellets that will go through a machine to create the yarn.
In the future, the company plans to use recycled textiles in addition to PET bottles to create jerseys, demonstrating with flair the continuous improvements made by Taiwanese textile manufacturers.
Taiwan's textile industry has a complete upstream and downstream supply chain, allowing manufacturers to respond quickly to brand requirements about sustainability.
These quality products, which value innovation and sustainability, are poised to shine at this year's FIFA World Cup Qatar, making Taiwan textile manufacturers the invisible champions in the locker room.
