TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) founder Morris Chang shared some highlights of his recent attendance in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit on Monday (Nov. 21).
Speaking at a press conference, the 91-year-old announced that leaders of many countries were interested in Taiwan's semiconductors and questioned whether the chip manufacturer would consider setting up shop in their respective countries.
Chang is no stranger to the APEC scene as this marks his 6th participation as Taiwan's envoy to the APEC summit. In particular, many media outlets reported his cordial conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to various reports, Chang greeted and congratulated the Chinese president on securing his third term as the Communist Party's leader.
Although some politicians have voiced displeasure with the move, Chang remarked that many of the world leaders at the summit believe that regional peace would continue to be upheld across the Taiwan Strait.
His handling of the delicate situation was later praised by Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, who applauded Chang's actions in representing Taiwan at the annual summit.
