TAIPEI (TVBS News) — TVBS commentator Wenchi Yu sat down with U.S. representative and Congresswoman Judy Chu on Wednesday (Nov. 16) to talk about the results of the midterm elections, her efforts in giving the AAPI community a louder voice, and her goals for the future of America.
Chu explained that she was pleased with the Democratic Party’s results in the midterm elections. Though they sadly lost the House, Chu pointed out that the loss of seats was the lowest in decades, adding that they were able to keep the Senate.
As former U.S. President Donald Trump also announced on Tuesday his intentions to run in the 2024 presidential campaign, Chu views this as a positive for the Democratic Party as she believes Trump's endeavors will merely hurt the Republican's bid.
Meanwhile, Chu is also the chairwoman of CAPAC, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and has been an advocate for the AAPI community in the US for some time. She elaborated on the importance of amplifying the community's voices in America, confirming that "organization" is key to making their voices heard.
Mentioning current U.S. president Joe Biden's win in 2020, Chu remarked, "I felt like the AAPI vote went from being marginalized to the margin of difference." When questioned by Yu about her future plans despite the Democratic Party’s loss of the House, Chu remains optimistic.
She vows to continue working on issues like reinstating Roe vs. Wade so that women can have access to safe abortion means, improving health care policies to provide Medicare and Medicaid to all, and clearing up the backlog on the U.S. immigration system, to name a few.
