TAIPEI (TVBS News) — There are less than two weeks to go before the 9-in-1 elections. Candidates from all around the country are doing their best in the hope of attracting voters attention.
Walking to the bus stop, you may meet a city council hopeful handing out drip coffee bags with their face printed on the package. On your way to work, the neighborhood chief will wave and wish you a good day while giving you some face masks and a flyer stating his campaign policies.
This year, because of the pandemic, candidates gift out face masks, wet wipes, and alcohol spray, as before, tissue packages were a longtime favorite. One also hands out pain relief patches and another drip coffee packs. According to law, however, these giveaways may not be over NT＄30, or they will be considered as bribes.
In addition to gifts, posters are another's candidate favorite. On a building in Pingtung, a wall features wight candidates' campaign posters. The owner provided the wall of his home for free to the candidates.
Another Taiyazhung politician Duan Tipei used billboards with Zelensky's image and the slogan: "I will fight for Taiwan, like Zelensky for Ukraine'' in his election campaign.
People in Taiwan have complained about the flags the candidates put out on the streets. Some flags block drivers' views becoming an accident hazard, and some candidates didn't get permission from house owners to display their poster.
Department of Environmental Protection officials said that candidates must submit applications to hang their posters around the city.
