TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is continuing to expand on the usage of green energy, and the Global Wind Organization is taking a lead in cultivating new offshore wind power talents.
There are currently four GWO-certified wind power training courses in Taiwan. They cultivate professional offshore wind power talents, who can obtain certificates through their professional training.
Due to the rise of green energy in recent years, many foreign manufacturers have entered the Taiwanese market, making the demand for local talent in this field soar.
Asked about his motivation in joining the program, Yang Kai-sheng, a trainee at the GWO course said, "I think the prospects are very promising. The government has been advocating green energy and supporting wind power generation, so I have confidence in (this industry)."
The Marine Technology Innovation Center in Kaohsiung is the training center of the GWO certification program. Over the past three years, the training center has offered up to 186 classes, training 1,335 students and providing up to 22 advanced professional course modules, and customized courses in total.
Chen Wei-de, deputy director of the Maritime Technology Innovation Center, said that "after many big international manufacturers and international developers come in, they will urgently need to build their local operations and maintenance team, so they are looking to recruit young professionals willing to work in this field."
"The starting salary is estimated to be more than NTD65,000 to NTD70,000 based on two or three years of experience. I know some young people who have come into this field. Based on their experience, their annual salary will exceed NTD2 million in about five years, which is not a rare occurrence," he added.
As the green energy market continues to expand in Taiwan, more demand for related professionals will continue to increase. Young professionals interested in getting their foot in the door can look into the GWO course, to prepare themselves with the basics the industry requires.
