President Tsai pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

TAIPEI (TVBS NEWS) — President Tsai Ing-wen paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday in a tweet on Sept. 9. "I extend my deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the United Kingdom & the Commonwealth on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," she wrote.

"Taiwan remembers and celebrates her life of leadership and service, which set an example for people around the world," she added.

The Foreign Minister Joseph Wu called the British Representative in Taiwan, John Dennis to express his condolences. The  Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joanne Ou said, "Queen Elizabeth II of England has died. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest and most sincere condolences."
 

Politicians across party lines have also expressed their condolences following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Legislator Chiang Wan-an said, "Queen Elizabeth II is a significant person in history who witnessed the development of world history. We want to express our deepest condolences."
 

The Queen, the longest-reigning monarch in U.K history, passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8th. Her son Charles, formerly the Prince of Wales, is now King Charles III and the new head of states of the 14 other realms.
