Ewiniar may become typhoon by Saturday (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the frontal system began to move away from Taiwan on Friday (May 24), the island is still experiencing high levels of moisture, leading to brief, localized showers in the northern, central, and northeastern regions.

Weather expert Lin Te-en (林得恩) has indicated that the first typhoon of 2024, named Ewiniar, could form as early as tomorrow, with its closest approach to Taiwan expected on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

According to Lin, the tropical depression TD01, currently located off the eastern coast of the Philippines, is predicted by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to strengthen into a typhoon by tomorrow.

The intensity of the expected typhoon is anticipated to range from a mild to moderate level. Despite the potential formation of Ewiniar, Lin reassures that its direct impact on Taiwan is expected to be minimal. However, he emphasizes the importance of continued monitoring due to the inherent uncertainties associated with typhoon predictions.
