TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Weather expert Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) stated on Tuesday (May 21) that a tropical depression is highly likely to form in the waters east of the Philippines this week, with an 80% to 90% chance.
This development could lead to the formation of the first typhoon of 2024, named "Aiveni," (艾維尼) by next Monday. Chia's forecast highlights the potential weather changes that could impact the region soon.
Chia also highlighted that, starting Wednesday through Friday, the influence of a frontal low-pressure area will bring sporadic showers or thunderstorms to areas north of Kaohsiung and the Penghu islands. Additionally, Pingtung and the eastern regions of Yilan and Hualien are expected to experience brief local showers.
By Friday, areas north of Tainan, including Yilan and Hualien, will see brief local showers, with scattered brief showers also predicted for the Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas.
The short-term climate trend indicates that conditions favorable for the establishment of the plum rain front will begin next Tuesday (May 28) and continue into early June.
