TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Celebrating World Earth Day, Jonathan Hall, managing partner of Kantar's Sustainable Transformation Practice, outlined steps for businesses and policymakers to address climate change at the Earth Solutions 2024 Sustainable Design Action Conference on Monday (April 22).

Hall shared insights from Kantar's Sustainability Sector Index 2023 to guide all sectors toward a sustainable future. "One thing that really surprised us is around greenwashing," he told TVBS News. "What we found is that we were expecting people to be worried about it.

But what they told us was that in 52% of cases, people felt that they were concerned about the social or environmental stance, and that people and businesses were actually telling lies in the space."

Despite these challenges, Hall remains optimistic about the growing awareness of sustainability topics. "The more they were concerned about these issues, and the more they were concerned, the more they started to reject products and services from businesses," he stated.

Hall also discussed Taiwan's inclusion in the 2023 report for the first time. "Sustainability, climate change, societal impact, these are all issues that do not respect national borders," he explained. "These are things we are all going to be impacted by going forward."

As Taiwan works toward its 2050 net-zero target, it is exploring how technologies like AI can help manage the rising number of natural disasters. Both public and private sectors are urged to enhance their resilience in line with the United Nations' SDG goals.
