Taichung Mayor Lu sets eyes on Singapore in strategic visit (TVBS News)
TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen announced Tuesday (April 2) that she will visit Singapore, marking her first overseas trip since her re-election over four years ago.
Lu, who last traveled abroad in September 2019 to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, has not made any foreign visits since due to the pandemic.
Lu is currently seen as the leading candidate for the Kuomintang in the 2028 presidential election. Visiting Singapore is often viewed as a starting point for presidential hopefuls.
For instance, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an chose Singapore for his first overseas visit after taking office. New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih also visited Singapore after announcing his candidacy for the 2024 election.
Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je, following the 2024 election, has also revealed plans to visit Singapore after May 20 and study at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
During his tenure as Tainan mayor, President-elect Lai Ching-te led a delegation to Singapore to study urban planning and renewal policies.
