TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Ma Ying-jeou is scheduled to visit China from April 1 to 11, making stops in Guangdong, Shaanxi, and Beijing. Speculation about a possible second meeting between Ma and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing has ignited a fervent debate.

On Tuesday, March 26, Premier Chen Chien-jen reminded Ma to remember the Taiwanese people's expectations for sovereignty. Amid mounting cross-strait tensions, the question of whether Ma will convey Taiwanese concerns directly to Xi and advocate for mutual non-recognition of sovereignty and mutual non-denial of authority, as he proposed during his presidency, remains a topic of significant interest.

The Ma Ying-jeou Foundation has not confirmed or denied the likelihood of a meeting between Ma and Xi. According to the foundation’s executive director, Hsiao Hsu-tsen, the decision will mainly be announced by the mainland, similar to the announcement of Ma's initial visit in 2023.

The historic first meeting between Ma and Xi took place on November 7, 2015, in Singapore, marking the first face-to-face discussion between the two sides' leaders since 1949.
