MOHW orders CWLF to stop admissions amid foster care scandal (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) on Wednesday (March 13) ordered the Child Welfare League Foundation (CWLF) to suspend accepting new foster children.
Deputy Minister Lee Li-Fen disclosed the measure at an MHOW press conference addressing the strategy amid escalated public concerns sparked by the case of a one-year-old in Taipei who died allegedly due to abuse from his foster caregiver.
Lee urged the CWLF to examine its internal social work services operation and certify its supervision and auditing mechanisms. The directive to halt new foster-care intakes will stand until the CWLF proposes a satisfactory improvement plan.
Lee remarked that the governments of cities and counties hopeful for matches should play a crucial role for children already in the adoption process, ensuring each child receives appropriate care, which will involve examination visits.
