PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Apache helicopters soared over Pingtung as Taiwan commenced joint force military exercises on Tuesday (Jan. 23), a crucial step in fortifying national defense amid escalating cross-strait tensions.

The four-day drills demonstrate Taiwan's readiness in both offensive and defensive tactics.

Following the victory of the Democratic Progressive Party in the recent presidential elections, China has ramped up its military presence.

A "surprise" air-sea joint exercise by China's People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on January 17 marked a significant escalation, breaching Taiwan's 24-nautical-mile defense perimeter.

In a show of force, eleven Chinese aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait within a single day.

Such activities underscore the fragile security situation in the region, with experts predicting an increase in military incursions in the near future.

In response to these provocations, Taiwan's armed forces are on high alert, committing to a stringent surveillance strategy to protect its sovereignty.

The military exercises in Pingtung demonstrate strength and a clear message of resilience and readiness to confront any threats to Taiwan's security.
