TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen on Saturday (Dec.30), underscored Taiwan's global economic significance, asserting that the nation does not require China as an intermediary to engage with the world.

Emphasizing Taichung's strategic importance in the upcoming elections, Tsai stated, "If Taichung prevails, both the presidency and vice presidency will be secured, and we will secure over half of the legislative seats."

Throughout her presidency, Tsai acknowledged the impediment of inadequate infrastructure on economic growth, resulting in an additional NT$4 trillion investment in public infrastructure since 2016.

She highlighted her administration's substantial commitment to social welfare, encompassing support for elderly care, subsidies for children aged zero to six, and ensuring stability for the youth.

Tsai also noted that currently, 47 percent of Taiwanese households, totaling 3.05 million, are exempt from income tax, a rarity on a global scale.

She concluded by urging support for Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate Lai Ching-te in 2024, emphasizing her strategy of integrating economics, defense, and democracy to safeguard Taiwan.
