TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Culture (MOC) will expand the eligibility for its "culture points" system starting in 2024, including those aged 16 to 22, up from 18 to 21, the MOC announced on Thursday (Dec. 27) in a press release.

Culture Minister Shih Che shared that the points, redeemable for cultural activities and goods, will be distributed from Jan. 20. Each individual can claim the points seven times, starting from age 16, and they will be valid until Dec. 31, 2024.

Culture points can be used for various activities, including watching local films, performances, buying books, visiting museums, and other cultural consumption.

Shih noted that the uptake rate for the culture points first disbursed in 2023 was 80%. The system will become a regular policy incorporated into the MOC's annual budget from 2024, according to the ministry. The number of culture point recipients is expected to increase significantly from 1 million to 1.5 million in 2024.
