TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In the midst of a closely contested presidential race in Taipei, Chen Shih-chung, former health minister of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), indicated on Monday (Dec. 18) that internal polling has revealed fluctuations in voter sentiment.

Chen, also serving as the DPP's campaign manager in Taipei, spent the morning canvassing for votes for the party's legislative candidates.

Chen believes that while the overall race in Taipei is challenging, DPP's presidential candidate, Lai Ching-te, maintains stable support across various demographic groups. The party has been conducting internal polls to assist in devising election strategies.

In response to claims by Huang Lu Ching-ju, director of the Kuomintang's (KMT) Taipei party branch, that KMT presidential candidates Hou Yu-ih and Jaw Shaw-kong have an approval rating of about 35 to 40 percent, Chen argued that the KMT has higher support among older voters but struggles to appeal to the younger demographic.

Despite acknowledging that party-led poll figures have been volatile, Chen stated that campaign tactics would be adjusted based on these polling outcomes.

Commenting on the election, Wu Pei-yi, the DPP legislative candidate for Wanghua and Zhongzheng Districts, remains optimistic.

Recognizing that Taipei has historically proven to be a challenging district for the DPP, Wu suggested that there is a possibility for a turn of events in both the presidential and legislative elections, with the party continuing to work tirelessly to improve its standing.
