TAIPEI (TVBS News) — One month before Taiwan's elections, ICRT and TVBS World Taiwan's English news department convened media and academic leaders to discuss the elections' impact on national security and peace.

The event, held at National Taiwan Normal University, aimed to educate international and local audiences about the elections, said Tim Berge, ICRT's general manager. He highlighted the government's bilingual program's role in aiding local understanding of election issues in English.

The use of TikTok to engage young voters and the varying strategies of political parties to win this demographic were key topics. Chiaoning Su of Oakland University questioned the significance of TikTok's presence in political discussions.

Cross-strait tensions and China's perceived threat were central themes, agreed upon by all major parties, noted Chifiei Fan, an independent journalist. Lev Nachman from National Chengchi University and Samson Ellis of Bloomberg Taipei discussed Chinese election influence, noting its evolution from overt to more subtle methods.

Local media and fact-checking bodies play a crucial role in combating disinformation, ensuring accurate and useful public information. Dimitri Bruyas from TVBS World Taiwan highlighted the keen interest in the election, evidenced by the event's attendance.

As the election approaches, Taiwan's focus remains on national security, economic growth, and cross-strait relations, with the presidential and vice-presidential candidates preparing for the final contest on January 13.
