Wang Jin-pyng clears air on SID, past rift with Ma (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In response to the Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih and his running mate Jaw Shaw-kong's advocacy for reinstating the Special Investigation Division (SID), former Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng on Thursday (Dec. 7) reiterated that while the SID has its functional merits, the key lies in the enforcers adhering to lawful administration.
Amid accusations from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that Hou and Jaw's stance amounted to an affront to Wang's past leadership, the former speaker met with KMT Chairman Eric Chu and the presidential and vice presidential hopefuls.
During the meeting, Wang conveyed his view that the SID, endowed with special authority, could serve its purpose effectively if those in charge enforce the law correctly and without themselves breaking it.
Wang, when interviewed, asserted his belief in the essential role of the SID, provided its operations are conducted within the bounds of law.
Furthermore, addressing concerns over strains in his relationship with former president Ma Ying-jeou, Wang said that there were no hard feelings. Dismissing past tensions, he emphasized his intention to foster a positive future relationship devoid of grievances.
