TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Labor Minister (MOL) Hsu Ming-chun confirmed on Tuesday (Dec.5) ongoing discussions regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with India, with a date yet to be determined.

Speaking before the National Talent Development Awards (NTDA) ceremony, Hsu rebuffed internet rumors surrounding suspected government plans to introduce 100,000 Indian workers by the end of the year.

Hsu Ming-chun explained that adding India as a new source of migrant labor is intended to address domestic industry shortages and reduce the reliance on traditional labor markets. She described the approach as a consensus among various sectors of society.

Regarding the number of potential migrant recruitment from Insia, Hsu emphasized it would be decided only after evaluating the current condition and statistics of industries already permitted to employ foreign labor. She assured that fixed quotas and a cautious, gradual opening would characterize the process.

Hsu noted the plan to introduce foreign migrant workers is aimed at diversifying Taiwan's labor source, thus, the employment numbers shouldn't be a major concern.

Hsu added that India would be expected to establish a talent database, with specific training in language and skills, for it to meet migrant labor requirements in Taiwan.
