Lai Ching-te leads in latest Formosa Magazine poll (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Taiwan gears up for the 2024 presidential election, Formosa Magazine released its latest poll results on Wednesday (Nov. 22), indicating Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lai Ching-te taking the lead in both three-way and four-way races, with Kuomintang (KMT) candidate Hou Yu-ih closely trailing behind.
In a three-way race, Lai leads with 31.8%, followed by Hou with 29.6%, and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je in third with 27.1%. If the election becomes a four-way contest, Lai still holds the lead with 30.4%, Hou at 27.2%, Ko at 22.9%, and independent candidate Terry Gou at 5.5%.
The poll also addressed the recent standstill in the KMT-TPP alliance. When asked who was responsible for the break in collaboration in a three-way race, 17.3% pointed fingers at the KMT, 26% blamed the TPP, 20% felt both parties were equally accountable, and 22.3% expressed no opinion.
In terms of party governance preferences, 28.6% of the public supports the continuity of the DPP in power, 26.6% suggest a shift to the KMT, and 16.7% favor the TPP taking the reins.
This survey canvassed a national sample from all 22 counties and cities, targeting residents aged 20 and above, utilizing a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing System (CATI). The poll was conducted over two days, from Nov. 20-21, successfully completing interviews with 1,071 respondents.
