TAIPEI (TVBS News) — With just over 50 days remaining until Taiwan's 2024 national election, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential and vice-presidential candidates Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim registered on Tuesday (Nov. 21) with the Central Election Commission.

As the first pair to register, Lai and Hsiao sported badges imprinted with cartoon depictions of a cat and a dog, respectively, bearing the phrase "pick the right people, follow the right path." Campaign spokesperson Chen Shih-kai quipped, "This represents a fusion of cat and dog lovers."

The cat and dog symbol came from the pair's representative animal. Lai's campaign design features a baseball theme alongside an animation series depicting his beloved dog. On the other hand, Hsiao is a well-known 'cat person,' often likening her familiarity with the diplomatic field to a cat's charm – gentle but firm.

During their registration that day, Lai and Hsiao not only donned symbolic badges, symbolizing the combination of dog and cat lovers but also raised the slogan 'pick the right people, follow the right path,' demonstrating their commitment to jointly forge a robust future for Taiwan, by complementing each other.
