TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential hopeful Lai Ching-te announced on Monday (Nov. 20) that Hsiao Bi-khim, Taiwan's former U.S. representative, will be his running mate in the 2024 election.
Lai praised Hsiao for her dedication, responsibility, and humility during a press conference announcing his vice-presidential choice. "Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim will lead the country steadily and firmly in the right direction," he said.
Expressing his excitement, Lai informed his countrymen that Hsiao, the Republic of China's representative to the U.S., would be his presidential teammate. He thanked her for her dedication to the nation and for accepting the mission to jointly develop Taiwan in the next phase.
Lai revealed that their relationship spans three decades and commended Hsiao for her exceptional performance in all her roles.
Highlighting recent significant shifts in Taiwan's political landscape, Hsiao noted that the nation's future and its global impact largely depend on the Taiwanese people's ability to uphold democratic values.
"I am Hsiao Bi-khim, and I am back. I have an unwavering commitment to Taiwan and will strive for my country," she declared.
